Mototerakoji Catholic Church

Mototerakoji Church was first built by Father Prutolin, a Paris Foreign Mission priest in 1877, in 1897, it was completed under the name of the Church of the Lord of Heaven; from 1936, it was known as the Cathedral of The Diocese of Sendai. In 1945, the cathedral was attacked by an airstrike and was burned to ground. In 1993, the present Cathedral was finally built.
The present Church is located in the center of the city of Sendai, with approximately 1100 parishioners. The Church contains the main church, a small chapel, and a hall for the faithful (in the main church there is a room where the mothers can follow the mass with their children). There are many groups for the faithful: Sunday school for primary school children, the Marian room for infants, and a group for youth.
